Advantages of AMC1305 compared with competition

Hi all,

Would you mind if we ask AMC1305?

We confirmed advantages of AMC1305 compared with competition using "AMC1305_Overvidw.ppt".
However this document mentions some parameters.

So, if you know some good features, could you let us know it?
As the example,
AMC1305 has double insulation, so in case of the failure mode, it will not be shorted.
Is our recognition correct?

AMC1305 is a bit expencive compared with competition, of cource, we know that AMC1305 is superior to competion.

We need your help.

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hello Hirotaka Matsumoto-san,

I am not familiar with the "AMC1305_Overvidw.ppt". document that you mention. Could you please send it so that I review what you are talking about? Thank you.

It is impossible to predict for sure the type of failure that an isolation device will have. A sufficiently high surge can damage the device and leave a conductive path or destroy it so catastrophically that there is little left over.

The final state could be open or short or somewhere in between. There is no technology in the market that can ensure open failure of the galvanic isolation barrier.

Capacitive isolation technology cannot ensure that the isolation barrier will fail open!

Magnetic isolation technology cannot ensure that the isolation barrier will fail open!

Optical isolation technology cannot ensure that the isolation barrier will fail open!

I encourage you to watch the following video, it shows the type of characterization performed and shows a graphical example of how catastrophic a failure can be if the voltage is too high:

The AMC1305 provides reinforced isolation that is verified by and compliant to VDE 0884-10.

  • Jose san,

Thank you for your prompt reply!
"AMC1305_Overvidw.ppt" shows "TI confidential - NDA Restrictions", so we guess that we must not contribute this file on the URL.
We guess that this file can be gotten from ESP.

    We need your help.

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Jose san,

The datasheet shows the double insulation and the reinforced insulation.
Does AMC1305 have these two insulation?

    Kind regards,

    Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hello Hirotaka Matsumoto-san,

I will look for the presentation you mention in ESP.

It is important to clarify that the AMC1305 provides reinforced isolation.

Remember that the definition is explained in the AMC1305 datasheet: reinforced insulation is a single insulation system that provides a degree of protection against electric shock equivalent to double insulation.

Double insulation: Insulation comprising both basic and supplementary insulation.

Supplementary insulation: independent insulation applied in addition to basic insulation in order to ensure protection against electric shock in the event of a failure of the basic insulation.

Basic insulation: insulation to provide basic protection against electric shock.

    Best regards,

    Jose
