I need help finding a part. Please help me find a DAC with the following spec/requirements:

  • Resolution – at least 8 bits
  • 30us update rate
  • Output voltage – dual output rails at +/- 15V
  • Communication – don’t care
  • Output channels – at least 4 (more is better)
  • Cost – as low as possible

 

Please let me know if you can help me with this. I need something very quickly.

    Hi Calum,

    I can assist you with your inquiry.

    We don't have a a DAC that matches all of those specifications, but we get pretty close. I will need to know which specifications are the most critical.

    We can accommodate most of your requests. The only conflicting factor becomes the price and the high output voltage.

    Output voltage: The high voltage DACs (> 5V) tend to be much more expensive, so if cost is critical you it would be necessary to also include an amplifier to achieve the desired output voltage.

    I would recommend the DAC084S085 or the TLV5620. Either of these devices will match your needs, except the high output voltage. You will need to work on a solution to gain up the output voltage.

    The solution will look like this TI Design. It will show you how to make a bipolar output out of a single output. This design includes a 16-bit DAC and precision resistors, but you can adjust the quality of the components accordingly to match your needs. The document walks you through the entire design.
