DAC8871 OUTPUT POWER

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC8871

Hello everybody. I really want to know about the maximum output power that I can get from the DAC8871. I'm designing a function generator and I want to know if someone knows that.

Thanks to everyone who takes some time on reading this and much more if anyone could tell me about it.

  • Howdy Braian,

The DAC8871 is an un-buffered device. A simplified representation of the internal architecture, which is an R-2R ladder, can be found in Figure 38 of the DS. To successfully drive a load, an external amplifier (buffer) is required. Therefore the maximum output power is not dependent on the DAC itself but the current capability of the buffer stage connected to the output of the device. An example schematic of the DAC8871 with an external amplifier is shown in Figure 39.

If you have any questions about this please let me know.

    Best Regards,
    Matt
