Using AFE4403 in biomedical application in the presence of high motion and movement activity

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE4403, ADS1292R, TIDM-BIOSIGNMONITOR, ADS1292

Dear TI E2E™,

We have to make a new design for Heart rate monitor with Pedometer, Memory for Datalogging, Batterie management, and Bluetooth connexion...

This design will be used in applications with presence of high motion and where users are not always stabilised and often moving ( for example user RANNUNG, Walking...) .

My questions are :

Q1---  If we chose optical technologie based on AFE4403 for HRM : As you are experienced with this device could you please tell us :

i- Is it an efficient and reliable solution for this kind of application ?

ii- can we use the AFE4403 (as it is designed to provide a wide dynamic range for better SNR) without a need for additional software motion compensation algorithms ? do you provide a compleat software driver for the AFE4403 with motion compensation algorithm ?

Q2--- Does the the AFE4403EVM and  AFE4403 Watch EVM kits can be used to make test for HRM with presence of movement and high motion ?

Q3--- Does the software for the AFE4403EVM and  AFE4403 Watch EVM  provide with ( or support the )  motion compensation algorithms ?

Q4--- If you don't recommend the AFE4403 for application where there is a presence of high motion, what about using ECG solution based on the ADS1292R device as example your ref design TIDM-BIOSIGNMONITOR ? there is any constraint or comments about using this application in this kind of application ?

we are waiting for your reply !

Best regards,

Haithem.

  • Hi Haithem,

    1. The AFE4403 is derived from clinical quality core (for clinical SpO2) and has been designed to provide a wide dynamic range for better SNR thus facilitating in providing a robust signal for the motion compensation algorithms.
Unfortunately we do not support motion compensation algorithms. We leave it to our customers to implement the motion compensation algorithms.

2, 3. Both the EVM kits do not include motion compensation algorithms.

    4. Regarding the ECG solution based on ADS1292R, you may want to direct your question to the Precision Data Converters forum where the ADS1292 device is supported.
