ADS1118EVM Issues

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1118EVM

I have a customer who is seeing the following issues when using the ADS1118EVM (my questions are in BLACK and his responses are in RED):

You stated that you have tried to program the device, but the programming does not appear to be active. Please explain this.

Am using the Labview example .exe that shipped with the evm board on a Windows 7 Home premium O/S.

Are you using the graphical interface or are you using your own code?

Using the Labview example, with the SM-USB-DIG Adapter to the EVM board.

Have you tried downloading the software from the web site? It is normally the newest version.

Yes. No difference.

Did there seem to be any problem when you installed the software as described in the EVM User's Guide? Were any error messages shown?

No install issues or errors.

After the software was installed were you able to see the graphical interface?

Yes, and it seems functional. It appears a little glitchy and occasionally hangs temporarily- but not fatally.

How are you certain that the programming has actually been done? Can you see a change in the operation?

No com errors show, the data transfer light in the usb dig adapter flashes. No other confirmation that the chip is talking or listening.

When you read the registers they just send back FFFF?

Correct.

How long have you had the EVM and did it ever appear to be operating properly?

Just received it, installed the S/W and hooked up the hardware per the evm data sheet. No history of prior operation.

You might want to try and install another IC, but we should first make sure that all of the voltages and signals are correct so that if this is an issue it will not cause damage to another chip.

Again, this is a brand new EVM board.

Are you using the thermocouple supplied by TI or another one that you are going to use in your application?

I started with the TI supplied T/C, and as a sanity check tried a type K from Omega. No difference.

Is there as issue with using this EVM with Windows 7 Home Premium?

Why would the customer not be able to see the contents of the registers? Is this something to do with the programming?

Is the customer doing anything wrong that you can see? Is it possible that the board is bad?

Thanks for your help with this!
