VSP5612: Query on Transfer characteristics

Part Number: VSP5612

Hi,

I am having few below queries on the VSP5612 transfer characteristic parameters.

1) In Test Conditions column, what does '12-bit' indicate?

2) For Analog channel crosstalk, LSB units are specified. But how to calculate crosstalk in dB and Percentage?

3) How do we measure the system noise using this ADCs? Please suggest any recommended way to get this measurement.

Thanks in advance,

Mahesh GV

  • Hi Mahesh,

We have received your inquiry regarding the device VSP5612 and hope to have some answers back to you shortly.
  • 1. I may not have understood your question correctly. 12-bit simply means that of the 16-bits, the MSB 12-bits are taken into account for the particular spec.
    2. For getting the rest in DB, the calculation will be number in 6*log2(LSBs)-72 (if the spec is a 12-bit spec, the full scale is 72 dB). Percentage = 100*lsbs/2^12 (if the spec is a 12-bit spec, the full scale is 72dB).
    3. Again, I am not sure I understand your question correctly. For quantifying sensor noise, you will need to do 2 measurements -
a ) Use a reference signal (AINx and AINGNDx shorted and grounded together and couple via recommended input cap). Lets call this measurement as Na.
    b) Reference zero signal output from CCD/Sensor connected to AINx via recommended input cap. Lets call this measurement as Nb.

sqrt(Nb^2-Na^2) should give you an idea of sensor noise.
