TSW12J54EVM: Two questions on the TSW12J54EVM

Part Number: TSW12J54EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00432, LMK04828, LMH5401

Dear TI members,

1.- In the TI design TIDA-00432 two AD12J4000 EVM boards are synchronized on a VC707 board from Xilinx. I would like to know if this development works also for the TWS12J54EVM.

2.- The TSW12J54EVM board has a low pass butterworth filter at 2GHz, but the differential amplifier has a bandwidth of 8GHz. Is it possible to bypass the filter to be able to sample signals higher than 2 GHz.

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Vicenç Almenar

  • Hi Vicenc

    Regarding your questions.

    1. Yes, the architecture used in TIDA-00432 would also work with the TSW12J54EVM. Similar modifications to the EVM will be required to allow inputting a clock to the LMK04828. Please note that this clocking architecture limits the ADC sample rate to frequencies supported by the LMK0482x PLL1 VCO ranges.
    2. Bypassing the lowpass filter will support higher frequency operation, but will also allow harmonics added by the differential amplifier to reach the ADC inputs. Please see Figures 14, 15 and 16 in the LMH5401 datasheet for the expected HD2 and HD3 levels as a function of frequency, amplifier mode and output load resistance.

    Best regards,
