ADC12D1600QML-SP: Absolute maximum ratings

Part Number: ADC12D1600QML-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12D1600, ADC12D1620QML-SP,

If you look at the commercial ADC12D1600 data sheet, dated Aug 2015, the absolute maximum ratings table specifies  says "voltage on any pin (except Vin+/-)".  The Datasheet for the QML part has the same table, and specifies “voltage on any pin” but it does not say “except Vin+/-“.  I am starting to think that text is missing from the QML data sheet, and I should interpret the line item as I see it written for the commercial part.  Is that correct?

  • Hello Steve,
The ADC12D1600QML datasheet is in the middle of a rewrite to clarify the abs max and operating limits.
It will look like the tables in the ADC12D1620QML-SP datasheet.

Please review that. We would appreciate feedback on whether there are still any open questions that are not answered.

Note that as the ADC12D1620QML-SP datasheet shows, it is a package spin of the ADC12D1600 to improve SNR performance at higher input frequencies. Otherwise, it is identical in fit, form and function.
  • Thanks, Kirby. That answers my question, however it brings up another. The ADC12D1600QML data sheet you just sent (dated 2017) shows the absolute max voltage on Vin+/- is -0.15V to 2.5V. I saw another posting on this forum that said the range is supposed to be -0.5V to 2.5V.

What voltage range should I use?
  • Steve,
The only datasheet we should have for the ADC12D1600QML is the one posted on ti.com and it is from December 2012. Since that datasheet was released, TI has done a lot of work in characterizing the abs max and operating limits for the part has been able to expand them and clarify them. The first datasheet to be updated with the new information is the ADC12D1620QML-SP. You can apply the abs max and operating limits in that datasheet to the ADC12D1600QML. The ADC12D1600QML is in the process of a rewrite and will get those updates. I believe the new datasheet is targetted to be released this summer.
  • The ADC12D1620QML-SP data sheet specifies the absolute max rated voltage for Vin+/- is -0.15V to 2.5V. The recommended operating voltage for Vin+/- is specified as -0.4V to 2.4V. These two line items contradict. Is the absolute maximum rated voltage for Vin+/- supposed to be -0.5V to 2.5V?
  • That is correct. That is one of the errors to be fixed in the datasheet revision.
When the ADC12D1600QML-SP datasheet was started, the Vin operating range was limited to 0V to 2.4V. Before the part datasheet was released, it was determined that the abs max and operating ranges could be widened. The operating table got updated but the abs max table inadvertently did not.
