TIDA-00765: Load Cell requirement for making weight measurement device.

Part Number: TIDA-00765

If am interested in using 1g Resolution over 15kg Range Sub-100nVpp Noise Front-End Reference Design link.( There is everything except load cell. Can I use any load cell which has a range from 0 to 5 kgf. One which is shown in the ink.( If there is any specific load cell to be used, can you help with the link. (Mouser/Digi- Key/Arrow)

  • Hi Tapas,

Thanks for your interest in the TI Design TIDA-00765.  Unfortunately I can't give you a link or part number for a specific load cell you can use in this design.  The TI Design used a simulated resistive bridge for analysis as well as an existing food processor modified to use the TI Design circuit for data collection to achieve the 1g resolution.  As to the link you provided, there is no information regarding sensitivity of the load cell.  Based on other similar looking single-point load cells I would guess it is 1mV/V, but that is just a guess.  There are many ways that a design can be implemented.  It is possible to use 3 single-point load cells in parallel with one end bolted to a base place and a foot (like a rubber foot with a bolt through the middle) to the other end of the load cell.  If the length of the load cell is 80mm, then the base plate would be rather large for 3 load cells.  Usually a load cell or combination of load cells (strain gauges) would be developed for a specific purpose as opposed to using a generic load cell for the food processor.

Whatever load cell is chosen the sensitivity and specifications might be different than the one used in the TI Design.  It is always best to follow the calculations in the design guide to verify the anticipated results for the load cell being used.

    Best regards,
