ADS7950-Q1: What is advantage of wide supply range ADC for Automotive?

Part Number: ADS7950-Q1

Hello,

I'm master course about IC Design in Chung-Ang Univ. in South Korea.

I research about 'Wide Supply Range SAR ADC', but I don't know about why this specification are needed.

I know about automotive supply condition is variable than other application, but than why are not mandatory wide supply range for automotive application.

Thank you.

  • Hello,

ADS795x devices can accept a wide analog supply range from 2.7V to 5.25V. Wide analog supply range implies wider full-scale analog input range and this in turn helps interfacing to signals coming out of a wide range of sensors or system. Also, ADS795x devices support a wide 1.7V to 5.25V I/O supply range that facilitates a glue-less direct interface with the most commonly used CMOS digital MCUs.

    Thanks,
    Vishy
  • Thank you for your answer.

About wide analog supply, I think it means applicable to various applications.

I wonder if it is related to the unstable voltage environment of the car(like cold crank, load dump etc), or it's okay just using narrow supply range ADC.
