DAC8218EVM: Output Voltage Range

Part Number: DAC8218EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC8218

What output voltage ranges does the DAC8218EVM support?  I need 0-20v output.  I was planning on using Unipolar mode.  Is this possible with this EVM?

Documentation References:

  • In the DAC8218 data sheet in Features on page 1 the second bullet states "Unipolar Output: 0V to +33V".
  • In the DAC8218EVM data sheet in the Introduction on page 2 the 3rd paragraph states, "The DAC8218EVM is designed for unipolar and bipolar (default) modes of operation."
  • In the DAC8218EVM data sheet in "EVM Warnings and Restrictions" it states, "It is important to operate this EVM within the input voltage range of –16.5V to +21V and the output voltage range of –15V to +15V. Exceeding the specified input range may cause unexpected operation and/or irreversible damage to the EVM."

  • Hi Jeremy,

I think that warning may have been generic or copied from another guide.  You should be able to operate from 0-20V unipolar mode on the EVM as long as you do not violate the max operating conditions of the DAC8218 or other components of the EVM.  Specifically the AVDD supply is shared with the LT750 that has a max input voltage of 26V.  So you should take care not exceed that for your positive high voltage rail.

If this resolves your issue, please mark the thread as 'resolved'. Thanks!
