ADS8528: Data disordered when applied in voltage&current sensing

Part Number: ADS8528

Hi all,

Recently, I’ve come across with an issue of ADS8528, which I want to inquire if you guys have any ideas or solutions. Please kindly refer the following information:

  • The issue occurred when the board was running in normal condition(not high temperature or low temperature).
  • Three pieces of ADS8528 on the board had this kind of issue, which were not the specific ADC or specific position on the PCB board. It’s more likely random.
  • One channel of ADS8528 monitored the supply voltage(+15V), and another channel was for the current sensing as the picture shown as below
  • Additionally, the sample voltage not only dropped from 15V to 0V, but some of its channels had a few volt changing at the same time.

  • Hi James,

Thanks for your query on E2E. I have some questions as below:

    1.  Is this a new design or production design? What's the sampling rate?

    2.  As the "issue" you mentioned:

"the sample voltage not only dropped from 15V to 0V,"   -- have you monitored ADC input when the code is dropping? is there any amplifier and RC before ADC input?

"but some of its channels had a few volt changing at the same time",   -- is there any amplifier and RC to drive ADC inputs?  what's the level of few volt?

How about reference voltage on REFIO pin(pin 56) when these "issue" happened?

    Thanks.

    Best regards

    Dale

  • Hi Dale,

After checking with the customer, I have the information as below:

    1. This is a production design, and the sampling rate is 100kSPS.

    2. There are RC and Amplifiers to drive the ADC inputs. However, the issue cannot not be reappeared, leading no ADC input monitored voltage and REFIO pin voltage.

3."but some of its channels had a few volt changing at the same time", means that some channels have about 0.5V, and some have 1~3V.

Hope the information could have some help. Thank you.

    Best Regards,
    James Zhan
  • Hi James,

I will setup a call with you directly for this case. Thanks.
