ADS8584S: Parallel interface mode (DB15/BYTE SEL pin selection)

Part Number: ADS8584S

Hello support team,

To set parallel interface for ADS8584S, should both pins be tied to logic low for "PAR/SER/BYTE SEL" and "DB15/BYTE SEL"?
Table-6 in the datasheet p.40 mentioned both pin to "0", but section 8.4.1.12 in p.35 described "DB15/BYTE SEL" functions as digital output when "PAR/SER/BYTE SEL"=0.
Could you let me know which description is correct?

Regards,
Kaizawa

  • Kaizawa,

We are looking into this issue now and will get back to you soon.

  • Hello,

Let me clear up the confusion.

To use Parallel interface, PAR/SER/BYTE SEL =0 , this makes DB15/BYTE SEL the MSB digital out

To use Serial interface,  PAR/SER/BYTE SEL =1 and DB15/BYTE SEL =0

    To use BYTE Interface,  PAR/SER/BYTE SEL =1, and DB15/BYTE = 1

In Table6,  I agree that it is not clear. When in parallel interface (PAR/SER/BYTE SEL =0) the DB15/BYTE SEL should be listed as MSB digital output, and not as 0.

In the datasheet, page 35, section 8.4012 may also prove helpful.
