ADS1216: How to read ADS1216 8 channels voltage value?

The ADS1216 uses a single ADC connected to a mux (see the block diagram on page 7 of the ADS1216 datasheet). The ADS1216 can be setup as 8 single-ended inputs or 4 differential inputs. This requires that each channel data be read one at a time after the mux has been changed and has completed the conversion cycle. There is no FIFO buffer for this device and the data must be read before the next conversion completes.
