ADS7263: REFIO2 at default setting

Part Number: ADS7263

Hi

I have a simple question. Our customer are going to use this device at default setting of REFCM registor.

Can we leave REFIO2 floating or connect to GND as mentioned at datasheet if is at default?

Is my understanding correct?

Regards,

Koji Hamamoto

  • HI Koji,

The REFIOx pin is the reference input or output of the device.   In default settings, the internal reference is disabled.  In this case, the device requires the customer to apply the external reference at the REFIO.  The external reference input voltage range is 0.5V to 2.525V  In addition, a ceramic capacitor with 22 uF connected to RGND is recommended; and RGND needs to be connected to the analog ground plane in the PCB with a dedicated via.  Ensure that the external reference circuit is able to drive the 22uF bypass capacitor and the SAR ADC.

The internal reference is disabled by default.  If you require the internal reference, you will need to set Bit 10 of the REFDACx control register.  Please refer to section 8.6.2 p.37 of the ADS7263 datasheet.

    Best Regards,

    Luis

  • Hi Luis,

    Thank you for your support.

I understand the external reference is enabled at the default setting. (The internal reference is disabled as you mentioned above.)

Also the external reference REFIO2 is disabled at default setting.

So that, REFIO2 can be left floating or connect tot GND at default settings. Is my understanding correct?

    Koji Hamamoto

  • Hi Koji,

Yes, if the application uses the REFIO1 input, applying an external reference with a 22uF on REFIO1 in default settings, the REFIO2 input can be connected to GND in default settings since is not used.

    Luis

  • Hi Luis,

    Thank you.
Do you recommend the REFIO2 should be connected to GND better than floating?

    Regards,
    Koji Hamamoto
  • Koji,

If the application will never use the REFIO2 pin, connecting the pin to GND is a good option. Otherwise, if the application may use the internal reference in the future on the REFIO2 pin, the pin could be left floating with a non-populated option for a 22uF bypass capacitor for flexibility.

    Best,
    Luis
  • Hi Luis,

Thank you for the prompt reply. That is quite useful.
