ADS1231: ADS1231

Part Number: ADS1231
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS122U04, ADS122C04, ADS1220, ADS1232

Hi ,

I'm using ADS1231 as a single ended input ADC, do you have reference circuit design ?

  • Hi MT,

Welcome to the E2E forum! Unfortunately the ADS1231 cannot be used to measure a single-ended input. The ADS1231 has a fixed gain of 128 with a common-mode input restriction. See the electrical characteristics table on page 3 of the datasheet in the ANALOG INPUTS section. The common-mode input range is GND +1.5V and AVDD-1.5V. As you cannot connect the AINN input to AGND, you cannot make a single-ended measurement using this device.

We do have a similar pin controlled device which is the ADS1232 that does allow single-ended inputs at gains of 1 or 2. We also have the ADS1220 that is register based with a low-side switch similar to the ADS1231 that allows single-ended measurements with the PGA disabled and bypassed with gains of 1, 2, or 4. The ADS1220 is SPI based communication, but we also have some devices much like the ADS1220 but without the low-side switch that can communicate via I2C (ADS122C04) or by UART (ADS122U04).

    Best regards,
