TSW14DL3200EVM: AD and DA Evaluation Module compatibility

Part Number: TSW14DL3200EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12DL3200EVM, ADC12DL3200, FMC-ADC-ADAPTER, ADS5402, ADS5407

What TI A/D and D/A converter evaluation kits are compatible with this evaluation board? I am especially interested in DAC3482EVM hardware compatibility.

Many thanks  Jiri

  • Hi Jiri
The TSW14DL3200EVM platform is a new LVDS capture/source platform designed to support new and upcoming data converter EVMs that have high pin-count very fast LVDS data interfaces.
The only board currently compatible is the ADC12DL3200EVM.
The DAC3482EVM is supported by the TSW1400EVM.

  • Hi Jim,

thank you for your answer. What I need is a platform for 2 channel A/D and 2 channel D/A (sampling 1 GSPS per channel) with low latency for both directions. ADC12DL3200EVM seems to be perfect, but I am not sure whether it can be used together with Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC ZCU102 Evaluation Kit, which I selected before having knowlege about TSW14DL3200EVM

Could you provide me any help?

    Thank you

    Jiri

  • Hi Jiri

What is the allowable maximum latency for the ADC to FPGA and FPGA to DAC links? That information will help us to understand if any other solutions are available.

Unfortunately the ADC12DL3200EVM is not compatible with the standard FMC HPC signal connectors on the ZCU102. Those connectors only map 34 user-defined LVDS pairs (FMC0) or 30 user-defined LVDS pairs (FMC1) which is not sufficient for the ADC12DL3200 LVDS data/clk interface.

The ADC12DL3200EVM data interface consists of 48 data pairs, 4 strobe pairs and 4 clock pairs and a proprietary connector pinout is required to transfer all of these signals to the TSW14DL3200EVM.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Jim,

thank you - I identified the same issue.

I do not have a fixed requirement for the delay (or data latency), simply shorter is better (low-cost automotive radar target simulation - shorter target distance can be simulated). It means JESD204 interface cannot be used at all.

For DA conversion I have selected the DAC5682ZEVM module (together with conversion module for XILINX boards). Is it a good choice or other is better (in term of the data latency)?

I am still not sure about the AD module. Can you recommend me the TI module (2 channels, at least 500 MSPS per channel) with lowest data latency compatible with Zync kit from XILINX?

    Thank you for your support

    Jiri

  • Hi Jiri
I think the ADS5407EVM in combination with the FMC-ADC-ADAPTER should work with the ZCU102 platform. I am checking with some colleagues to see if they agree.
Take a look at the capabilities of the ADS5407 (dual 12b 500MSPS, LVDS output) and ADS5407EVM to see if those can otherwise provide what you need as far as ADC performance, input signal type, etc. The ADS5402 may also be an option, it is similar but runs up to 800 MSPS.
    Best regards,
    Jim B
  • Hi Jiri
My colleagues agree that the ADS5407EVM and FMC-ADC-ADAPTER combination should work with the ZCU102 platform. Please refer to the design documents for each board to determine the data and clock pair locations on the ZCU102 HPC0 connector.
    Best regards,
