ADC12D1800RFRB: Interface to Computer

Dear All,

I need to be able to digitise an RF signal at a minimum of 1 GS/s, process the samples (in an FPGA or CPU), and stream the result to a computer at a rate of at least 1 Gb/s.

Is it possible to achieve a transfer rate of 1 Gb/s to a computer with this board?

I notice that the board has a USB 2.0 interface only, which presumably would mean the maximum transfer rate would be 0.48 Gb/s.

Would it be possible to modify this board with a USB 3.0 interface instead? Or another high-rate interface?

Is there an alternative board that can achieve a transfer rate of 1 Gb/s to a computer?

Hope somebody can help.

That board cannot support the desired transfer rate to PC.
Our ADC evaluation tools are primarily designed to allow customers to confirm performance and functionality meet their requirements before proceeding with their product design efforts. The tools usually use a block capture and transfer approach, and are not configured for streaming transfer of data to PC. If a block capture/transfer approach would be useful I will check with a colleague to see if we have any other tools that have similar data throughput using this approach.

Dear Jim,

Thank you for your reply. If there were another board with a high-rate interface like USB 3.0 or 3.1 then presumably I could reconfigure the FPGA with my own hardware specification (and write my own software to interface to it) to achieve my goal? If there isn't a board with a high-rate interface then I suppose I would need to design my own - thinking of which, it would be a very good starting point to have the design of the TI board to work with, is that publicly available?

Elsewhere, unless I am mistaken I remember seeing that some of the ADC evaluation boards don't have an FPGA or CPU on board, presumably I could connect such boards to another board that has an FPGA on it?

Would greatly appreciate any further advice you can provide with regards to how I can best meet my goals.

I agree that using one of our ADC EVMs and an FPGA development board might be a better solution to your needs.

The ADC12DJ3200 is a 12 bit ADC that can operate at up to 6.4GSPS in single input mode, or 3.2 GSPS in dual input mode. A slower speed version, the ADC12DJ2700 is also available.

The ADC12DJ3200EVM or ADC12DJ2700EVM can be used with the Xilinx KCU105 FPGA development board.
