TVP5150: TVP5150

Part Number: TVP5150

Hello,

This is in continuation to my prior post last week. Regarding the registers in TVP5150, I just wanted to know the default registers that are always set on power up and is required for decoding the video signal. I could see many registers listing in the data sheet, and since I am new to video decoding it will be great if someone could guide me through the register working for TVP5150 decoder module. For clarity, I have listed the questions that I tried getting a clarification on:

1) Is there any specific external microcontroller that goes well with TVP5150 module for setting up the registers using I2C serial interface on power up?

2) Is there any delay that is estimated to occur while the NTSC video input is being identified by the decoder module upon power up and uses the autoswitch option to set the registers?

3) Possibility to use the decoder module in stand by mode such that the module doesn't have to reinitialize the registers from trace when the camera is not used temporarily and at the same time conserves power in it's idle state, but will still have the capability to jump back to it's operating mode and decode the next scanned NTSC video signals without any delay that might occur if the module has to reinitialize the registers every time after it powers up from idle state?

From the FAQs available online, I could see that there is an auto switch option for NTSC video inputs, but I thought of getting a wider view on the default set of registers that usually needs to respond or set using I2C, once a video signal gets detected at the input side on power up.

It will be great if someone could help me on this as soon as possible, as this module is a part of a high priority project.

Thanks for your time! Wish you have a great day!

  • In most scenarios the default settings will be perfectly fine.

The only required register change is to enable the clock and data outputs. These are disabled by default to allow bus sharing with additional devices.

  • Hello,

Thanks for the information on registers. Actually the issue with the TVP5150 moule is that we don't have the evaluation board TVP5150EVM that was designed specifically to test the TVP5150 module. As we have to design our own evaluation board for the decoder module, I just thought of knowing the default registers that are critically needed for the NTSC video input signal's decode operation. I could see many registers that are also used to further improve the image quality, whereas I am looking for the very basic registers that needs to be set for the decode operation upon power-up of the module.

Also, I have this other question on whether the decoder module can operate in standby mode such that the module doesn't have to reinitialize the registers from trace when the camera is not used temporarily and at the same time conserves power in it's idle state, but will still have the capability to jump back to it's operating mode and decode the next scanned NTSC video signals without any delay that might occur if the module has to reinitialize the registers every time after it powers up from idle state?

Kindly clarify me on this concern. Thanks again for all your time and effort!

  • As I mentioned, the only registers needed to get the decoding operational are enable the clock and data outputs. All the other register defaults are OK.

There is also a power down control bit which will turn off most processing and put the device in its lowest power state. This can also be controlled from the PDN pin.
