ADS1118: how to connect multiple ADS1118 to an MCU?

Part Number: ADS1118

Hi,

in datasheet figure 45. 50 Ohm is placed between SPI port of MCU and ADS1118.

If multiple ADS1118 are needed, do we need multiple 50 Ohm, or we only need 4 50 Ohm?

What's the purpose of the 50 Ohm?

  • Howard,

The main reason to use the resistors is because of signal integrity. If you have long traces on the board, with some inductance and capacitance, you may get some ringing on the digital lines. The series resistance will act to reduce this LC ringing and prevent any overshoot from causing glitches in digital signals.

For multiple devices, you would still just use a single 50Ω resistor for each line. This is shown in figure 48 of the datasheet.
