ADS8689: Is a Digital isolator or a level translator necessary?

Hi,

  In my design, I need to connect the 16-bit ADC with an S128 microcontroller from Renesas Electronics for communicating the measured values. The digital section of the ADC operates at 3.3V and the MCU works at 3.3V. Now, my question is Whether it is really necessary to include a Digital isolator in my design?
