ADS1226: Resolution at different mode

Part Number: ADS1226
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1220

Hi Team,

ADS1226 has two modes, high resolution and high speed mode. If customer select high speed mode the resolution could not be keep at 24bit, right? If so, what is the resolution at high speed mode.

Thanks a lot.

Vincent Chen

  • Vincent,

Like many other Delta-sigma type ADCs, the ADS1226 trades speed for noise performance. Both modes will report data with 24-bits.

High-Speed mode runs nominally at 100SPS, but has an RMS noise of about 2ppm of full scale. High-Resolution mode runs at about 16SPS, but has an RMS noise of about 0.5ppm of full scale. The noise performance is shown in Figures 11 to 14 in the datasheet.

I would note that the ADS1226 is a bit of an older device. A newer, similar device would be the ADS1220, which has better performance with a extra features.
