ADS8664: Chip ID Register

Part Number: ADS8664
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8668,

Dear team,

we are planning an single HW that can be populated with ADS8664 or ADS8668 dependent if a 12bit or 16bit version is required. A common software shall be used. Do our ADCs have an ID register where we could extract information if the correct part has been populated? Or how can we test in software which part it is?

many thanks

Lutz

  • Hello,

The ADS8664 and the ADS8668 are both 12 bit devices. The difference between the two is the number of channels they have,  ADS8664 provides 4 channels, and the ADS8668 provides 8 channels.

The ADS868x family would be the equivalent in 16 bit resolution, also supporting either 4 or 8 channels.

The devices do not have a register or address associated to them for you to extract and know what device it is.

You could use the resolution difference though, if you are able to control the input signal, set to full scale and complete a conversion. If the device outputs a high bit in the last four LSBs then, it the is the 16 bit device.
