ADS1194: How to remove baseline drift?

Part Number: ADS1194

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

TI's ECG scheme is selected for the project

Using each of the ADS1194 chips, the original diagram is as follows

At present, I have generally seen the lead-in I II aVF lead-in acquisition wave type display straight line in winter (the problem of large skin impedance due to the dry skin of the skin)

Please assist with the analysis to solve the problem of skin impedance

  • Hello Xia,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our forum!

The slow change you are observing in the ECG waveform is known as baseline drift. This is a very common application challenge in ECG systems due to the high contact impedance between the human skin and the electrodes. In the analog domain, this is often very difficult to remove completely, but better quality electrodes and electrode gel are often used to reduce the contact impedance as much as possible. Any remaining drift is usually removed in software with some sort of high-pass filter algorithm.

    Best regards,

  • At present, the data collected by the chip is straight line, which can not be processed by software filtering algorithm. Can it only be solved by replacing high quality electrode plates and electrode gels? Is there any other remedy?
  • Hello Hongxia,

Please stop creating new threads and repeating the same question. I have deleted your other three posts.

The two channels that are plotted as straight lines appear to be saturated to the ADC's full-scale value. The differential input voltage must remain less than VREF / Gain (absolute value).

Another possibility is that the channel for Lead I or Lead II is not powered on. Confirm that the register settings are configured correctly.

    Best regards,
