TSW14J56EVM: TSW14J50EVM VS TSW54J60EVM

Part Number: TSW14J56EVM

Hi Team,

I received the following request, can you help me?

######################################################

I need a digitizer to collect RF signals. From Texas Instrument (TI) website, I found a “digitizer” board (TSW54J60EVM - http://www.ti.com/tool/tsw54j60evm). In order to capture signals with this board, a “data capture” board is needed. From TI website, I found two “data capture” boards. One of them is TSW14J50EVM (http://www.ti.com/tool/tsw14j50evm) and the other one is TSW14J56EVM (http://www.ti.com/tool/TSW14J56EVM). Although there is huge price difference between these 2 boards, it seems that the only difference between these two boards is data transferring rate.

Are these two “data capture” boards compatible with the digitizer (mentioned above) board?

Is there a significant difference between these two “data capture” boards?

If we buy one of these “data capture” boards, do we have to pay fee for the software (High-speed data converter pro software) which is descripted in the datasheet of “data capture” boards?

Is there any thresholding/edge detection ability of this system (digitizer, data capture board and software)?

While we are collecting data, are we going to press run/stop button or can we set edge detection?

Fabio

The two biggest differences between the capture cards are the amount of memory available and the max serdes rate supported. TSW14J50 memory can store 250M of 16 bit samples. While the TSW14J56 can store up to 1G. Max serdes rate for J50 is 6.5gbps I think, while the J56 supports up to 15gbps. HSDC pro is free on TI.com. If you your device configuration doesn't require extra memory or call for serdes rates higher than 6.5gbps then your obviously better off with the TSW14J50.

Both capture cards support trigger input/output functionality where edge detection is set as desired.

    Thanks
