AFE7225EVM: AFE7225 EVM with TSW1405 EVM

Part Number: AFE7225EVM

Hello everyone,

I am having AFE7225EVM ADC/DAC board with TSW1405 EVM board. With this much hardware I want to capture signal generated by a function generator over

High Speed Data Convertor Pro software. For this I have downloaded the HSDC Pro V5.0 and installed in my PC when I connect all the EVM board with my PC and launch HSDC Pro

software it ask to select the EVM board with Proper EVM serial number. But I could not able to get any signal generated by my function generator over HSDCPro software it appears blank.

I need help with this very basic operation I an completely new with this hardware setup.

  • Chandan,

The engineer covering this device will get back to you shortly regarding this.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Chandan,

Have you attempted to reference the EVM user guide. It shows step by step procedure to operate the AFE7225 EVM.

    Find it here: www.ti.com/.../slou362.pdf

    Thanks

    Yusuf
  • Dear Sir,

Thank You for replying so fast. As you have mentioned I have referred to the EVM user guide. I am facing problem

in the initial software installation part only. In the manual it has been asked to install AFE722xinstaller to control the

ADC/DAC card but I have gone through your website and could not able to locate it even no CD of pendrive has been

    provided with the ADC/DAC unit.

I have downloaded the High Speed Data Convertor Pro software. But as mentioned earlier its getting connected with TSW1405 but it

    is not capturing anything.

    Waiting for your reply

    Regards

  • Dear Yusuf,

I have downloaded the AFE722x ADC Control Software version1.3. It was very difficult to locate this software in Texas Instrument website.

I found it in reply section of some query raised in your community page.

Now coming to the point. I have gone through the User guide provided by you in our previous discussion. In content number 4 of the user guide

which tells about  the "Initial EVM setup and Basic test procedure"  it tells us to do the necessary hardware connection which involves two function generator with TSW1405 and AFE7225 Card

I have done the connection as per the prescribed hardware connection shown in the user guide. After that it is asking us to do CDCE72010 configuration where we have followed some steps and do necessary RX setup in the AFE722x control Software. Even after doing all these necessary settings I am not able to capture and data in the HSDC Pro software.

Once again I am telling you In our end I am only having TSW1405 and AFE7225EVM board. I am attaching a photograph of my setup involving all above mentioned items. Please check it and reply as soon as possible since we are running out time.

    Regards

    Chandan Dutta.

  • Dear Yusuf,

Thank you for sending us the software to control AFE7225evm. We have installed it in your PC and followed the used guide provided by you but I am still afraid to tell you that it is not

working. We have been repeating the steps mentioned in your user guide but unable to get and signal generated by conventional function generator in HSDC pro software.

I am afraid that whether the device is going to serve our purpose or not. This was our first procurement from Texas Instrument and we are very much upset with the performance of the product.

Hope you can understand our situation and can help us.

    Waiting for your reply

  • Chandan,

I see that you are attempting to use a data rate of 3.3MSPS in HSDC pro.

Can you please try operating the AFE7225 in the default setup and then adjusting from there?

The following configuration will require a 737.28MHz external clock to J10 and a 61.44 MSPS DAC data rate that you should type into HSDC pro.

    1. Dac sampleing clock of 245.76MHz
    2. ADC sampling clock of 122.88MHz
    3. Interpolation: x4

Afterwards, please send me a snapshot of the CDCE72010 tab in the AFE7225 GUI.

    Thanks

    Yusuf
  • Chandan,

Just checking in. Do you have an update for this?

    Yusuf
  • Chandan,

Haven't heard back in a while. Closing for now.

  • Dear Yusuf,

Sorry for replying so late, Actually we were out of office. Please allow us one more day. We have done couple of observation and will share those observation in more detailed manner with you by tomorrow.

  • Dear Yusuf,

As discussed in the trailing mails I have done the setup with AFE7225EVM wih TSW1405 data capture board. You can find the setup picture in the below attachment. In our facility we are not having clock generator to generate 368.64 MHz Clock signal. So we are feeding 10 MHz, +10.6 dBm signal as ADC sampling clock signal in CDC AUX IN connector (J10). You will find the clock signal picture with spectrum plot in below attachments. With this we feeding 5 KHz sin wave signal in Input Channel A (INA J3 connector). The signal and spectrum plot for the same is attached below. With this setup we have set the AFE722x Software control as given in the User Guide provided by you. The panel snapshot for the same is attached below. The ADC Sampling rate in HSDC Pro software is set to 2 Msps as mentioned in the user guide the ADC Sampling rate has to be 1/3 of CDC AUX In clk signal which is 10 MHz.

Even after doing all these we unable to acquire any signal in the HSDC Pro software Panel . Apart from this we have observed the IC CDCE72010 was getting very hot when ADC clk signal is fed to CDC AUX IN (J10  Connector).

I hope this time I am very much clear to you. Sorry for replying so late this time please go though it and reply as soon as possible.

  • Chandan Dutta,

A few things. The balun on the RX input path will not allow you to pass frequencies lower than 400kHz. The pass band is 400kHz to 800MHz.

Also, is your signal source coherent with with your clock source? Spectral skirting is likely to occur as shown in your capture if they are not. Connect the 10Mhz reference from your clock source to the reference input of your input signal source. Then on HSDC pro select "auto calculation of coherent frequencies" as seen in the image below.

    Hope this helps!
