RS232 and RS485 can be choice by GPIO circuit. use SN65LBC180-Q1 and TRS3223E.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01238, TRS3223E, MAX3221E

Hi

I would like to have RS232 and RS485 can be choice by GPIO circuit.

I find this in TI http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/tidua80/tidua80.pdf .

If I let B short to Z, A short to Y, one 120ohm between A-B

It's also can be work?

2. Can I use SN65HVD10DR replace SN65LBC180IDRG4Q1 and use MAX3221CDBR replace TRS3223ECDWG4 ?

  • Shawn,

This design uses hardware to config the RS-232/RS-485 selection. If you wanted to do it by a MCU, you can refer to this TI design.

    http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-01238

You could use SN65HVD10DR. Please notice: 1) it's a 3.3V device; 2) the abs max of bus pins is -9V to 14V. Theoretically RS-232 signaling is from -15V to 15V. As long as you make sure the voltage is within proper region, it's OK. MAX3221CD can replace TRS3223E here. If you want to have the same ESD protection level, you could choose MAX3221E.
