ADC12DJ5200RF: Migrating from ADC12DJ3200 to the ADC12DJ5200RF

Part Number: ADC12DJ5200RF
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12DJ3200,

Hello,

Our original design was done with the ADC12DJ3200 Analog to Digital converter. But due to change in specs, we decided to replace the ADC12DJ3200 with the faster ADC12DJ5200RF. The datasheet says that these two part are pin compatible and that the ADC12DJ5200RF has a higher power consumption. Power is not an issue on our design. However, when we built our board with the ADC12DJ5200RF, it fails with a JESD sync error right from the start. We are running the same test code on both ADCs. My question is: Are these two ADCs functionally and firmware compatible as well meaning if we have code for the ADC12DJ3200, will that work without modification with the ADC12DJ5200? Our first goal is to establish functional equivalency between the ADC12DJ3200 and the ADC12DJ5200RF before we move forward with the latters' more advanced functions. Your input on this issue will be much appreciated. Thank you.

  • HI Dhruva,

I am looking at your question and will get back to you soon.

  • Hi Dhruva,

The ADC12DJ3200 and ADC12DJ5200RF are pin to pin compatible. The ADC12DJ5200RF requires more current because it is running at higher speed. The latest datasheet is available on http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/adc12dj5200rf.pdf which has current consumption in different modes.

There are some new modes added to ADC12DJ5200RF. But JMODE0, JMODE1, JMODE2 and JMODE3 has exactly the same implementation as ADC12DJ3200 the only difference being ability to run the ADC12DJ5200RF at higher sampling speed.

Yes If you run the ADC12DJ5200RF at 3200MHz of sampling speed in  JMODE0, JMODE1, JMODE2 and JMODE3 you should be able to use the same firmware as ADC12DJ3200
