ADS1174: How to change SPS after start-up

Part Number: ADS1174

HI Team,

I would like to understand how to change SPS after start-up. Do I have to use power-down sequence as below?

1. Change POWER-DOWN signal to Low

2. Change CLK input divider control signal

3. Change POWER-DOWN signal to High

Regards,

Kotaro Yamashita

  • Hello Yamashita-san,

It is not necessary to power-down the channel when the CLKDIV pin changes state.  When CLKDIV changes from 0->1 or 1->0 this will automatically trigger a mode change reset.  Whenever a reset occurs, the /DRDY line will remain high for 129 data conversion cycles and then will start toggling at the output data rate.

In general, after a power-up reset or any mode change, it is not a bad idea to toggle the /SYNC pin.  This action is typically used to synchronize multiple ADS1174's, but it also resets the device.  As an example, if the power supply start-up sequence is not met, issuing a /SYNC pulse will reset the device for proper operation.
