DAC3164: Sample rate per channel?

Part Number: DAC3164
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC3162

Hello team,

Is the 500MSPS for DAC3164 per channel? What is the max data clock rate?

The part seems to be interleaved so I would think each channel would be 250MSPS? Does the same go for DAC3162?

Thanks!

  • Sepeedah,

Both devices are 12 bit DAC's that both channels can operate up to 500MHz. The max data rate for both is 500MHz with respect to the DATACLK. Both use DDR, which means the A channel data is valid on the DATACLK rising edge and the B channel data is valid on the falling edge. The main difference between these parts is the DAC3164 has an option to use the data bus for only the A channel. In this mode (SDR), data is clocked in for channel A on the rising edge only. This still can operate up to 500MHz but it provides for more setup and hold time for the data.

    Regards,
