ADS1219: ADC BoosterPack™ plug-in module

Part Number: ADS1219
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP432E401Y, , , ENERGIA, ADS1262, LMP90100, ADS1261EVM, ADS1261, ADS124S08, ADS124S08EVM

Hi

is it possible to connect two ADS1219 BoosterPack plug-in Module simultaneously with MSP-EXP432E401Y LaunchPad Development Kit?

Thanks,

Amit

  • Hi Amit,

The BOOSTXL-ADS1219 was developed to be used as a single BoosterPack on the LaunchPad.  It is technically possible to stack the BoosterPacks, but the address pins are currently conflicting (as the I2C addresses are the same) and one of them would require changes.  Also, the DRDY of both devices would be tied together which makes determining when the conversion is complete a little more challenging.

As to the firmware/GUI it is not possible using what is available currently for the ADS1219 BoosterPack.  You would have to write and develop your own firmware/GUI and unfortunately TI does not have the resources to help support this kind of endeavor outside of what is currently available from TI.com (and dev.ti.com).

You could develop an Energia application and download to the LaunchPad.  To display the data you could use GUI Composer with a COM port connection through the XDS debugger port.

  • Thanks Bob.

This cleared my doubt so well. I appreciate your time and efforts.

One more question, would you suggest any other ADC evaluation module equillent to ADS1219 but with at least 10 channel? i looked into TI website and I thought

I wish to sample 8 sensors with minimum 24 bit resolution. The above two works as far as the resolution is concern. But, in evalution board LMP90100 i am not able to figure out whether it supports (Two terminal) 8  channel sampling or not? I would heartily appreciate your views on that

    Thanks

    Amit

  • Hi Amit,

It sounds like you want to build a prototype using an EVM.  Although this can be done, it may not give you the level of performance or the ability of control and data collection you require.  The EVM platform is designed to be used to evaluate the ADC and its operation.  For example, the devices you mention only allow for one channel at a time to be converted and must be setup and controlled by the software.  They will not sequentially collect data as that is outside of the design parameters of the firmware/GUI.

Newer devices would be the ADS124S08 and the ADS1261.  You could also look at the ADS124S08EVM or the ADS1261EVM (even though they have the same firmware/GUI restrictions as the others named).  The ADS124S08EVM is setup a bit differently and may not be as flexible with respect to the input channels in the way it is designed (as it is based on connecting various different sensors types).  The ADS1261 will be probably more easily connected.  Both of these EVMs allow for some simple scripting capability which may or may not be useful to you.

    Best regards,

    Bob B

  • Thank you Bob. This certainly clear my doubts
