ADS1014-Q1: Please help to suggest a suitable part to monitor voltage

Part Number: ADS1014-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1114-Q1

Hi team,

Could you help to suggest a solution to meet below requirement?

1. Need to monitor voltage 9V~33V

2. Resolution 0.01V (12bits need?)

3. Accuracy 0.1V

4. I2C interface

5. AEC-Q100 qualified

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Allen

  • Allen,

The ADS1014-Q1 is close to what you would need for this measurement. However, with such a high range (9V to 33V), you would need to use a voltage divider to get the input within the ADC range. Because of this, you would use a limited part of the ADC range (less than 12 bits) unless you were to use some type of instrumentation amplifier to shift the input and reduce the input to fall within the ADC range.

Instead of using the instrumentation amplifier, you could use the ADS1114-Q1. This device is the 16-bit version of the ADS1014-Q1. It has the same I2C interface.

If you used a voltage divider (1k/32k), your input would range from 0.27V to 1V. Using the ±1.024V range of the ADC, your input would be represented by over 20000 codes, which is over 14 bits of resolution.

With a gain error maximum of 0.15%, you should be under the 0.1V accuracy specification and the resolution should be much less than 0.01V.
