TLC549: Any alternative part to TLC549?

Part Number: TLC549

Hi team,

Customer need to find a alternative 8bit SAR ADC to replace the EOL part TLC549.

For pin to pin selection, I found TLC1549 but it's 10bit ADC which is higher too much than TLC549.

For non pin-to-pin part, I found TLV0831 and ADS0831-N which is similar spec to TLC549.

Is there any other similar spec part to TLC549? And the ADS7040 you recommend in following link is too much higher sample rate than TLC549.

Also, I notice that ADS0831-N is Mirowire interface, can ADS0831-N be configured as SPI?

Thank you

  • Hello Yunjing,

Do you need a device that supports 5V operation, or does the customer use the TLC549 from 3.0V to 3.3V?

Also, can the customer modify code to support a slightly different communications protocol?

The ADS7040 is the best, modern device.  Although it can support conversion rates up to 1Msps, it can sample at as low of a rate as needed.  The /CS signal controls the ultimate sample rate.  This device is not pin compatible, or code compatible, but does use the common SPI interface.  Please note that the maximum supply voltage is limited to 3.3V.

Regarding ADS08310-N, Microwire is a subset of SPI, with slightly different timing.  However, most SPI controllers can meet the timing requirements.

  • Hello Nicolas,

Thanks for your reply. I need a device support 5V operation.

Except to ADS08310-N, I want to confirm if TLV0831 is also a alternative part or not?

    Thank you!

  • Hello Yunjing,

TLV0831 can only operate up to 3.6V; it will not support 5V operation.

TLC0831 is a second source to the ADC0831-N.  Both of these devices are similar to the TLC549, but will require a change in the board layout, as well as a change in firmware to communicate.  Either device could be used as a replacement, but these are NOT drop-in replacements.

A more modern option, which is an upgrade to both TLC0831 and ADC0831-N, is the ADC08831.  ADC08831 will also require a change to the board layout and change in firmware (code).
