May I know what is the junction to board/case/ambient thermal resistance, and the maximum junction temperature for TLC7226IDW?
Hi Chen,
Welcome to E2E and thank you for your query. We don't have specific thermal resistance information for this part. However, you can use the data available for the 20-pin DW package in the following document. The data will be fairly consistent because the thermal resistance is mainly decided by the package.

Hi Uttam,
Thank you for the reply. May I know if Table 4 in the document is applicable to TLC7226 as well? If so, can it be interpreted that the absolute max Tj for the component is 150°C?
Regards,
Chen
Hi Chen,
This document is generic. For ABS max limit, please follow the datasheet. As per the datasheet, the max junction temperature is dependent on different suffixes. Please refer to that.
Hope that answers your question.

Hi Uttam,
The datasheet given value is max operating ambient temperature. Is the max Tj the same value as max Ta for this component?

Chen
Hi Uttam,
The datasheet given value is max operating ambient temperature. Do you mean that the max Tj for this component is the same value as max Ta?
Regards,
Chen
Hi Chen,
The Tj is not the same as Ta. As the storage temperature is specified as max 150 oC, I can assume that the normal Tj should be able to go up to the same value. But due to the lack of information, I would recommend providing a sufficient margin when considering the max Tj. The safest option is to consider 125 oC as the max Tj. If that doesn't work out for your design, allow only around 10oC temperature rise above ambient, which will make the max Tj as 135 oC.
Hope that answers your question. Sorry for not being able to provide a very definitive answer.

Uttam
Hi Uttam,
No worries, I just need to be sure that I am using the right numbers. To clarify, do you mean to estimate Tjmax by Ta_max + 10°C? As the component I am using is TLC7226I, from datasheet it only has a max Ta of 85°C, so the maximum safe estimate for Tjmax is 95°C?
Thank you.

Chen
Hi Chen,
Apologies for the late response due to the holidays. If you are using the 85oC variant, you can easily go up to 125oC junction temperature. The max junction temperature is mainly dependent on the package. I was skeptical about going beyond 135 oC as it's not been mentioned specifically in the datasheet.
Hope that answers your question.

Uttam
