ADS7950: REF pin of ADS79xx

Part Number: ADS7950

Hi,

I have some question about REF of ADS79xx series.
I would like to confirm how to select an external reference voltage device.

①Does the REF pin need a device that can drive more than ±10mA?
②Does it need temperature drift, accuracy and low noise performance comparable to REF50xx?

Best regards,
Yuto Sakai

  • Hello,

    1. The reference does not need to have the capability to drive 10mA. This limit of the ADS7950 is to protect the ADC, not for correct operation.

    2. It is recommended to use a device similar to the REF50, but not required. Any performance limitation of the reference will reflect in the performance of the ADC. Any noise or drift in the reference will directly reflect in the output measurement so the ADC, as the reference is directly used to measure the digital equivalent of the input.

    Regards
