ADS7950-Q1: failure analysis

Part Number: ADS7950-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS7950

Hi, I am using ADS7950 to detect temp and voltage, i got 3 failed PCBA, can read value, but not correct, power off for a long time, restart again, still fail.

after re-solder the same component, can get correct value, do u have any idea on this failure? thanks.

  • Hi,

I'm not sure what the problem was on the original PCB, but if you were able to re-solder the device and get a correct output, then it's likely that problem was in the original soldering. The ADS7950 comes in several different packages, but the 4x4mm VQFN is definitely a difficult device to solder (if that's what you're using).

If this comes up, I would definitely visually inspect the device on the board and check all the connections carefully with a stereoscopic microscope. Again, this would be my guess. There isn't any reason why a device would have problems on it's own. By re-soldering the device to get it to work leads me to guess  that this is a problem in the soldering. I've seen this many times in boards that I've worked on.
