ADS5282: Parallel LVDS and Serial LVDS

The interface type of ADS5282 is shown as "Parallel LVDS", while that of ADS5287 is shown as "Serial LVDS". However, from the datasheet, the internal structure of the two is the same, only the number of digits is different. ADS5292 is also shown as "Serial LVDS", but the interface mode is different from that of ADS5287 and ADS5282. The AD9222 interface mode of ADI is also defined as "Serial LVDS";

1. How do you define parallel LVDS and serial LVDS?

2. Is the interface type of ads5282 the same as that of ad9222? We want to replace ad9222 with ads5282

3. Is there any more suitable material to replace ad9222?

    Both ADS5282 and ADS5287 have "serial LVDS" interface. It's an error in ADS5282 product page that it's shown as "Parallel LVDS".

    Datasheets of both devices mention the interface type as "Serialized DDR LVDS Output".

    1. In serial LVDS output, ADC multiple output bits are sent on one LVDS line in a serial way as shown in the timing diagram below. 

     

         In parallel LVDS, each output bit is sent on a different LVDS lines. A 12-bit ADC parallel LVDS will have 12 LVDS lines per channel while a serial LVDS       ADC can have only one LVDS line per channel. ADS5292 has one-wire and 2-wire serial LVDS modes. one-wire is similar to ADS52 or ADS5287

    2. Interface type of ADS5282 is same as that of AD9222

    3. ADS5282 is most suitable as a replacement for AD9222. Power consumption per channel is about 33% lower on ADS5282.
