RFI EMI Interference with ADS1130 ADC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1130

Dear Sir,

I have used ADS 1130 for my Electronics WeighScale Application.

Although everything is working fine and readings are also stable, I am facing one typical problem which is described as under.

The ADC Count and hence the Weight gets disturbed and fluctuates a lot when evenever any of the Electrical Appliance connected to grid powered is Switched On and OFF.
Say in my lab or in my room I have powered the Weigh Scale from a 230V Wall Outlet and if any of the electricl appliance like a Flourescent Tubelight or Laser Printer or a computer or a Ceiling Fan or any such load connected in the Room is Powered On or Off the ADC Count and hence the Weight displayed fluctuates a lot. Possibly this is EMI interference or Electrical Noise affecting the system.

Pls advise and guide me in eliminating this noise to put the systems through and resolve the issue.

  • Sulax,

Is it possible to send a schematic of your circuit?  Does the problem only occur when the device is switched on/off, or does the problem exist all the time the other device(s) is powered?  Are you using any EMI/RFI filtering?

A clean power supply connection to the ADS1130 is critical.  Any disturbance can create noise, especially regarding the ground and the reference input. Often times we have seen problems with layout where ground traces are used instead of a good ground plane.

    Best regards,
