ADC104S021: Operation temperature of adc104s021

Part Number: ADC104S021
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1018-Q1, ADS7954-Q1

Hi Team,

In order to more rigorously identify the appropriate ADC model, please help confirm the following problems with Customer, Thanks.

1. From the datasheet, it can be seen that adc104s021 passes AEC-100 qualified, and the allowable temperature range is - 40 ~ 85 ℃:

(1) Does the maximum operating ambient temperature of 85 ℃ include the local ambient temperature rise of adc104s021 caused by heat conduction and radiation in other areas?

(2) Is the information of aecq certification inconsistent with the information of unable to work at 85 ℃ ambient temperature?

(assuming the free air temperature is 85 ℃, considering self heating and being heated by other parts, the local ambient temperature of ADC will be greater than 85 ℃)

(3) Whether the assessment of usable temperature can be classified into junction temperature, thermal resistance, ambient temperature and maximum power supply loss are known:

5V*1.8mA*190℃/W+85℃=86.71℃

Since the loss of ADC itself is very small, the self heating can be ignored.

2. If the conclusion after confirmation is still that adc104s021 cannot be used at 85 ℃ ambient temperature, please help to recommend the appropriate model.

Could you recommend a suitable device that the resolution bigger than 10 bit( include 10 bit)?

The sampling rate of ads1018-q1 is low, and the number of ads7954-q1 pins is too high.

Best Regards

  • Hello,

    1. the ambient temperature is the temperature of the environment around the device
not the temperature of the silicon. the temperature of the silicon is the junction temperature or the operating temperature.
the operating temperature of 85C is the temperature of the device.

    2. the device can tolerate up to 150C, but the specifications given in the datasheet are only tested to 85C

I am looking more into this and will get back to you with more information

As for alternative devices, I did a quick parametric search and found 8 results of devices that you can look at.

I would suggest looking at ADS7954-Q1

  • Hello,

I have looked into ADC104S021, and it is an automotive grade part, but there are different grades within AEC-Q100.

This devices is a grade 3, which support up to 85C.  below are the temperature levels for the different grades.

OUr automotive grade devices are commonly Grade 1, but the ADC104S021 is an older device and was only rated to grade 3.

The ADS7954Q1 device is rated to 125C.
