ADS124S08EVM: ADC Evaluation Software Not Working

Part Number: ADS124S08EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS124S08, ADS114S08EVM

Customer and I are both having problems getting https://www.ti.com/tool/DELTASIGMAEVAL-GUI software running on Win10 PC.  I'm assuming it's a problem with the device drivers, but we can't figure out how to fix it.  We think the drivers were updated using the process described in this post:

If we plug in the EVM and start the ADC software, the status bar says "Unable to identify device = ADS124S08", then "Hardware Connected, Ready...").

But the registers are not visible:

Device Manager shows:

Please advise on what else we can try.

Thanks,
Mark

  • Hi Mark,

The driver is actually a MS-Win driver and it appears to be properly installed.  However, it does not appear that the files for the EVM can be found.  There are two parts to the software installation.  The first part is the main GUI installation.  The second part is the EVM device package.  Have both software pieces been installed?  And if so, has the correct device package for the EVM been installed? For example, has the device package for the ADS114S08EVM been installed accidentally?

The software installation requires administrator rights.  Sometimes the administrator and the user is not the same person and the device package may not reside in the proper location for the user running the software.  If this is the case, then the device package software must be copied from the installation location to the user location.  Look for the following folder:

Inside the Devices folder should be a folder labeled ADS124S08:

If this folder does not exist, then either the DSEvalSW exists in the wrong location, or the software did not install properly.  If the folder resides under a different user, then copy the folder to the current users Documents folder.

Does the folder exist?  Is it in the correct location?  If so, then before starting the GUI, plug in the EVM and then start up the GUI.  Sometimes the GUI does not recognize the EVM properly if plugged into the PC after the GUI has started.

Let me know if you are still seeing the same behavior after checking the above and we can go deeper into other possible causes.

    Best regards,

    Bob B

  • Hi Bob,

Thanks for the quick response.  You're correct, we neglected to install the ADS124S08EVM-DVCPKG software.  Works much better now :)
