ADS1230: Load Cell

Part Number: ADS1230
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA305, ADS1130, ADS1131, ADS1231, ADS1232, ADS1234, ADS1220, ADS1120

Hi team,

My customer is currently investigating a sensor system using load cell. They're evaluating HX711. Does TI have a device that could be used for the same application as this? How about the ADS1230 or PGA305?

  • Hi Yamaguchi-san,

TI has many different devices that can be used for load cell applications.  Some of them are single-channel input devices and others have multiple input channels.  Also resolution varies from 18-bit, 20-bit and 24 bit.  Some of the devices have a limited or fixed PGA while others have more gain options. Here is a partial list of devices:

Part Number         Channel Count    ADC Resolution     PGA Options

    ADS1130                         1                    18-bit                        64

    ADS1131                         1                    18-bit                        64

    ADS1230                         1                    20-bit                        64,128

    ADS1231                         1                    24-bit                        128

    ADS1232                         2                    24-bit                    1,2,64,128

    ADS1234                         4                    24-bit                    1,2,64,128

We also have many other general purpose ADCs that can also be used in bridge or load cell operations.  A couple of examples are the ADS1120 (16-bit) and the ADS1220(24-bit) which use SPI for communciation, but we also have similar devices that operate with I2C or UART.  So we have many possible devices that could be used.

    Best regards,

    Bob B
