ADS112C04: Inquiry about replacement from ADS1112 to ADS112C04

Hi,

Our customer is using ADS1112 now.

They have a plan to change from ADS1112 to ADS112C04.

I have some questions like below.

1. Is there no issue?

2. Could you guide firmware for ADS112C04 when change from ADS1112?

    Hi Michael,

    The ADS1112 and the ADS112C04 are quite different in operation and are not pin for pin compatible.  The ADS1112 has a single register for configuration and the ADS112C04 has 4 registers with many different options for input selection, reference selection, gain selection and data rates.  The ADS112C04 also has IDACs that can be used to excite sensors.

    The ADS112C04 also is command based where the various configuration registers are written and read by commands (WREG and RREG).  There are also commands for START/SYNC the conversions, RESET the device and read data from the device (RDATA) as well as placing the ADS112C04 into a POWERDOWN state.  Unfortunately we do not have example code for the ADS112C04 at this time, but the commands are well documented in the ADS112C04 datasheet.

    Michael,

    If the customer is interested, the ADS1115 may be a good intermediate step between the ADS1112 and the ADS112C04.

    The ADS1115 is not going to be a drop in replacement for the ADS1112 and all the devices have different configuration registers and will require different firmware. However, the ADS1115 is a popular device and there are many people who have written example code for this device.

    I don't know what features your customer was interested in that led them to the ADS112C04, but the ADS1115 might be a possible substitute.
