AMC7812: How much sink current can GPIO handled continuously

Part Number: AMC7812
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC7836

Hi Experts

My customer has a design that is already in production and could enter a scenario where a single GPIO operating in output (logic low) mode could be driven by the logic high output of a SN74LVC1G58DRLR logic gate (with +5V supply).

The ambient temperature expected is -10C to +50C.

Will this condition cause damage to the AMC7812, or is this an acceptable condition?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Jim B

  • Hi Jim,

It can potentially cause damage, but it is hard to say.  We don't have an abs. max. spec for this device, but a similar device (AMC7836), is limited to 5mA.  The SN74LVC device can source as much as 32mA in this condition, so I doubt we have that large of a margin.  If this is a very brief condition (a few microseconds), then it should be okay.  I think they should take efforts to prevent this condition.

    Thanks,

    Paul
