AFE5801EVM: How to sync the AFE5801EVM with the chirps generated by the LMX2492EVM

Part Number: AFE5801EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE5809, AFE5801, LMX2492EVM, , LMX2491, TICSPRO-SW

Hi TI's E2E

I am looking to build a system where I will be using the LMX2492EVM as a generator of chirps and the AFE5801EVM along the TSW1400EVM as a recording system. 2 questions:

1. Can the AFE5801EVM with the TSW1400EVM record all the real time samples to a PC.

2. How can I sync the start of the chirp (generated by the LMX2492EVM with the start of the sampling of via the  (AFE5801EVM+TSW1400EVM)

thanks for your time.

Udi

  • Hi,

    For your question 1,

You can see there are memory chips on TSW1400EVM board,

the AFE5801EVM with the TSW1400EVM record all the real time samples to TSW1400EVM memory.

After you capture all the real time data you needed, the through by using High Speed Data Converter Pro (HSDC Pro) GUI

which will load all the real time data to your PC.

    for your question 2,

You can use you own trigger source (such as, generated by the LMX2492EVM)

please using hardware sync (i.e., Trigger Signal) input pin and refer to AFE5809 User's Guide page 12 Figure 10

for reference. That means using your own trigger source to trig AFE5801 Sync pin and TSW1400EVM's Trig input pin.

    Thank you!

  • Hi

    thank you for your answers.

    1. the AFE5801 can sample 8Channels x 65Msps --> can all this data be continuously saved (in real-time) by the PC via the TSW1400EVM & the HSDC PRO?

    2. As for the sync, I don't want to use external sync, what I need is for the LMX2492EVM to operate in a certain mode of chirps and for in each start of chirp, I need the LMX2492EVM to output a sync trigger which will be used by the AFE5801EVM (which will be connected to the TSW1400EVM and to PC. (I need the samples to be synced to the chirps, i am building a radar prototype)

    3. I would like to know what would be a typical fastest and slowest chirps options from the 3 to 3.5GHz via the LMX2491EVM (500MHz chirp bandwidth).

    much thanks for your effort.

    Ehud.

  • Hi,

    for your question 1,

the real-time captured to TSW1400EVM's memory (for all 8 channel data)

but not real-time directly saved into your PC's memory.

    for question 2,

you can refer more details on the AFE5809 User's Guide (please copy from the TI website) Page 12 Figure 10.

after that so you can use your LMX2491 (which is similar function as Function Generator did)

to provide SYNC (trigger) signal to AFE5801's SYNC pin and TSW1400's Trigger Input as well.

    for question 3,

please refer more detail related to LMX2491EVM to TI website as below:

(since we are using TSW1400 fpga only in our EVM.)

    such as:

    https://e2e.ti.com/support/clock-and-timing/f/48/t/852407?LMX2491-Output-frequency-abnormal-and-request-a-configuration

    Thank you!

  • hi

    1. following your answer, can i use trigger 1 or trigger 2 output pins of the LMX2492EVAL in order to sync the AFE5801EVM. does the voltage match?

    2. how do i control those triggers via the TICSPRO-SW?

    thank you for your time.

    Udi.

  • Hi,

you will get more correct answers from LMX group.

    Thank you!

  • Hi Ehud,

I think I have answered the trigger question in the following post. The output flag is CMOS level.
