ADS1148-Q1: Conversion time under 8 channel input condition

Part Number: ADS1148-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1148

Hello,

In datasheet, it says data rates max is 2ksps.

Under 8 channel input condition, can ADS1148-Q1 update conversion result for all channels within 0.5ms period?

Or, conversion time is defined for single channel conversion, will it take 4ms(=0.5ms x 8 channel) to convert 8 channel input?

Best regards,

  • HI Fujihara-san,

The 2ksps is defined as the maximum sample rate of the single ADC in the ADS1148. At 2ksps, it would be able to update a single channel every 0.5ms. It would take longer than 4ms to convert all 8 channels, since the mux would need to settle after switching channels. For 2ksps, this time is approximately 0.514ms (see table 10). So, all 8 channels could be updated every 8.2ms. Keep in mind that this device is full-duplex meaning that data can be clocked out  while also writing the register to switch to the next channel.
