ADS7843: ADS7843 EVB

Part Number: ADS7843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS7845

Hi,

I would like to ask a few questions about the ADS7843 EVB circuit:

1. Are the Analog and Digital Workspace in the EVB circuit connected to the breadboard?

2. The Analog part of the circuit is connected to the ADC input of ADS7843E and output from SPI to the rear controller,
but after the Digital part is converted from Parallel to Serial and input to ADS7843E through SPI for processing, it is still output to the rear controller through SPI?
(This part Is your understanding correct?)

3. What is the difference between ADS7843E and ADS7845E?

4. The purpose of the U6 hex inverter? Is it purely to reverse the signal?

Regards,

Rock

  • Hi Rock,

The DEM-ADS7843E board is no longer available.  To answer your question though:

    1. Yes - there were three pads in both the analog and digital work spaces that are physically connected as shown in the schematics.
    2. The DEM-CIB was an FPGA based controller that used the parallel port of a desktop computer (yes, once upon a time, PC's had printer ports on them) to talk to the DEM-ADS7843E.  The SPI interface was available on JP4, but it never actually went to the controller.
    3. The ADS7843 is a 4-wire TSC while the ADS7845 is a 5-wire TSC
    4. Yes - U6 inverted the polarity of the PenIRQ output.

  • Hi Tom,

    Thank you for your answer.

Did you have any about ADS7843E new reference design? If it is possible to share, my customer is currently using this IC for a new project, thanks.

    Regards

    Rock

  • Hello Rock,

Unfortunately, there are no plans as of right now to produce new reference designs. These devices are quite old and don't generate a ton of interest. However, on the products Technical Documentation page, we do have several pieces of collateral that my help with some of the customer's questions/interests.

    Regards,

    Aaron

  • Hi Tom,

Does TI have plans to update this IC? Or there have a new IC with the same function be recommended?

    Thanks

    Regards,

    Rock

  • Hi Rock,

To the best of my knowledge, there are no current plans to update the ADS7843.
