ADS8519: Reference

Hi team,

My customer is considering to input an external voltage of 4.096V to REF-pin(pin7) of ADS8519 without Trim. In this case, is it ok to input the 4.096V to the REF-pin directly? Or does it require 576kohm in series as described in the data sheet?

    Hi Takashi,

    The external voltage reference is not mandatory for the trim, internal reference can be used for the trim as well. The external hardware trim is used to reduce the offset and gain error. If the factory-calibrated specifications in the datasheet are acceptable for the customer, the external resistors for the trim can be omitted.

    If the customer is designing a new project, ADS8681(1Msps) or ADS8685(500ksps) can be considered which can support both unipolar and bipolar input and have a better performance, also integrate an analog-front-end(AFE) which can significantly simplify the customer's design.

    Thanks for the answer. Please let me ask the question again for my correct understanding.

    The customer mentioned that they don't need a trim. In that case, is it ok to apply 4.096V to the REF-pin directly without the resistor 576kohm?

    Hi Yamaguchi,

    I think my information in previous post has been very clear, let me answer your question in another way:

    1. If the trim is not considered, 576kohm resistor is not needed.

    2. If the trim is not considered, either external voltage reference or internal reference can be used.

    3. The purpose to use the 576kohm resistor is to adjust the gain for the trim, not for other purpose.
