ADS1114: Full-scale input voltage range

Part Number: ADS1114

Hi Team,

A customer noticed that the full-scale input voltage range of ADS1114 is ±6.144V. However, Section 7.1 states that the minimum and maximum analog input voltage are GND-0.3V and VDD+0.3V respectively. Is there a typo error in the datasheet?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hello Danilo,

Please note that the input voltage range shown in the recommended conditions table is based on the full-scale range of the ADC scaling. The voltage supply to VDD will limit the range accepted by the analog inputs, which is noted in the absolute maximums table. No more than VDD + 0.3 V should be applied to the analog inputs. Because of this, there will be some configurations of the device where the full-scale input of the ADC can not be used.

  • Hi Scott,

This means that the device cannot accept a negative voltage lower than -0.3V. Is the full-scale input voltage range of ±6.144V a typo error?

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Hello Danilo,

The full-scale range shown is the differential range (VAINP - VAINN), so if the inputs were at their limits (VAINP = -0.3V and VAINN = 5.8V) you would end up with -6.1V.

    Regards,
