ADS124S06: Monitor internal voltage reference

Part Number: ADS124S06

Hi,

Does ADS124S06 could monitor the internal reference?

According the Figure 79 and 52 in datasheet, the internal reference could be monitored with FL_REF_L0 and FL_REF_L1 registers. But in feature description  FL_REF_L0 and FL_REF_L1 below, it mentions these two registers are only for external register which is very confusing.

Best Regards,

Tess Chen

  • Hi Tess,

Yes, the ADS124S06 reference monitor applies only to the differential reference input pins, REFPx / REFNx. You can see this in Figure 79, where the comparators and flip-flops are tied to these pins, not the internal VREF.

If you wanted to monitor the ADC's internal VREF, the ADS124S06 has a REFOUT feature that could be measured with a lower-resolution ADC in an MCU for example, just to see if it is still operating close to 2.5V.

  • Hi Bryan,

Very clear. Thanks for your suggestion.

    Another question about ADS124S06:

    ADS1x4S0x Calculator.xlsx

The screen shot is from ADS1x4S0x Calculator excel tool. It shows that default status of GPIODAT[3:0] are high an which is different from description in datasheet table 42 in the above. Which is the right reference for application? Thanks.

  • Hi Tess,

The datasheet is the official documentation on our devices, the calculator tool is supplemental. So the datasheet is always the definitive source of information and is correct in this case.

You can also see that the value is correct in the tool, but the description is backward, so the tool should still provide valid information.
