BOOSTXL-ADS7841-Q1: Output higher than Vref

Part Number: BOOSTXL-ADS7841-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS7841

Hello Guys,

Good day.

I have a question specific to the chip itself (ADS7841). What is the expected output if channel input voltage is higher than Vref? It seems that the input voltage cannot go higher than Vref, but in the event that it does, what is the expected output? does the chip do random output? or FF or All 00 or what is the performance at that case?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello Art,

The device should continue to output the full-scale code value when the input is at or exceeds VREF.  Once the absolute input range of the input is exceeded (Vcc+0.2V) then behavior should remain at full-scale but is not within the recommended operating conditions and may be unpredictable over all operating conditions.  If the absolute maximum voltage ratings are exceeded the device can be permanently damaged.
